Why are there copayments?
Many health insurance companies have been using the copayment system as a way to encourage the responsible use of medical services:
* the policyholder pays an established contribution each time services are used
* this helps to limit the generalised premium increase for all policyholders in the company, thanks to the individualised use of the available services
* a copayment is normally a fixed amount, although it is sometimes a progressive cost (if a service is used very frequently)
Sanitas tells you about copayment costs for each policy via;
- Customer service department
- the portal (each Sanitas policyholder can access the portal)
- a quarterly statement sent to the policyholder's home address
